We’re going to be moving to a new server very soon. Instead of the whole ecomm1.csug.blah.blah, we have the opportunity to choose a proper, respectable web address, and I’m open to suggestions. You can use this site to see if a given name is available in .com, .net or .org flavors. Right now, I’m leaning toward “everfalls.com”. If you have another good idea, leave a comment here, or just contact me however you want. We could be registering the new server as early as tomorrow, so don’t hesitate.

Hmm. Everfalls.com is charming and appealing, but, since the site showcases many more worlds than White Rose’s, it seems a little narrow.
Of course, as I say this, I realize that FATE is already a major cross-campaign database, so maybe that’s not a valid argument. But I still would favor something broader. Is there a reason for avoiding a straightforward loreanlibrary.com?
Well, it would only be a name. I certainly wouldn’t make the homepage WR-themed or anything, and the source of the name would not be obvious. It’s just an homage whose alternative meaning would be appreciated by a select few. Same as the origin of FATE – which is probably what you meant.
My objective is to have a name which is simple, memorable, and unique-yet-inconspicuous. I know “Loréan Library” has the history behind it, but I’m not sure it’s the best choice to meet those criteria anymore. It may have a lovely fantasy flair, but that’s not necessarily suited to the projects we’ve got here, either now or in the future.
I would love nothing more than to keep it as “Lore,” but obviously, that address was snatched up long ago. So I’m fishing for compromises. “Everfalls” is aesthetically attractive, minimal… and most importantly, available. Your reaction of “charming and appealing” is actually encouraging to me. So. That’s my reasoning.
That reasoning works for me
Um, just as a side note, FATE was actually named after the evil (well, sort-of) computer in Chrono Cross, since our FATE was a database of a whole civilization, and CC’s FATE contained such a subsystem (it also had the entire *future* in a database, though, and some other interesting features like sentience and self-preservation).
Also, why must I enter my e-mail to make comments?
*looks at the form askance*
‘Cause nobody’s registered their accounts yet.
“lore.gilgarn.org” should now forward here, though I recommend you update your bookmarks nevertheless.
